ABOUT THE ACT

The Lebanon Climate Act (LCA) is a platform for non-state actors, like businesses, municipalities and others, taking leadership on climate change.  The LCA program is organized by Green Mind in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program, and with the support of the Lebanese Ministry of Environment and the Central Bank of Lebanon.

The LCA aim at creating transformational change towards a decarbonized and climate resilient economy in line with the Paris Agreement through leading by example and showing the economic and social benefits of climate action.

Climate change is one of the most challenging issues facing humanity. It is an existential threat that governments on their own are not able solve. That is why calls for climate action is coming from everywhere, companies, health sector, religious institutions, youth, among others.

Non-state actors, especially businesses, are increasingly playing an important role in the fight against climate change. Around the world thousands of companies have committed to zero-carbon targets. They took concrete climate actions, while at the same time growing their business. Their efforts show that change is happening and is unstoppable. It also encouraged many governments to do more.

So far more than 150 non-state actors have joined the program, mainly from the private sector, making LCA the biggest network for non-state actors action on climate change in Lebanon. These members are provided with technical assistance by the LCA Support Unit in order to achieve their climate goals. The LCA provides non-state actors the opportunity to collaborate together, and inspire others to act on climate change.
